According to the reports from the Scotsman, Rangers are looking to raid Liverpool once again as they weigh up a move for 20-year-old midfielder Herbie Kane. The midfielder played for Doncaster Rovers on loan last season. Kane wasn’t named in Liverpool’s pre-season tour to the USA.
Reports suggest that Liverpool will be happy to send the youngster on loan once again. The Bristol-born midfielder made 49 appearances for Doncaster last season and became their mainstay in midfield. Kane contributed with seven goals and ten assists playing as a central midfielder in the previous campaign in the League One.
What will Herbie Kane bring to the table?
The Englishman is a versatile midfielder, but he is at his best in a box to box role. There is no doubt to us that he is ready for a bigger challenge after thriving in the League One last season. A move to the Premiership or English Championship will do him a world of good.
Kane can open up defences with his passing abilities, and he can arrive late in the box to score goals as well. He is far from a finished product, but he is worth keeping an eye on.
Do Rangers need a midfielder?
Kane’s stats and performances are impressive, but we don’t see how Gerrard would be able to accomodate the youngster in the playing eleven. The 20-year-old is a versatile player as he can do all sorts of things in midfield. But the Gers have plenty of option in the middle of the park especially after they completed the signing of Steven Davis and Joe Aribo in this window.
Apart from that, Rangers have the likes of Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack who all look capable of playing regular first-team football. Greg Docherty is also back at Rangers after his eye-catching loan spell at Shrewsbury. The youngster will also look to establish himself in Gerrard’s setup if he ends up staying at Ibrox.
Moreover, will Liverpool want to send the midfielder to Rangers knowing that he might not get regular game time? We highly doubt that as well so this transfer link doesn’t make much sense. We are not taking anything away from the player as he has shown a good amount of potential in the last year or so. Any other season, Kane would have been an option worth considering, but Gerrard can let this one slip for the time being.
