According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the signature of Newcastle United goalie Martin Dubravka during the summer transfer period. However, the same source has also claimed that Spurs will face stiff competition from Aston Villa and Manchester United in pursuit of the Magpies star in this off-season.

Dubravka enjoyed an outstanding season with the Tyneside outfit after he put in a string of impressive performances at the back during Rafael Benitez’s reign as the Magpies manager. He has now become a fan favourite at St. James’ Park.
The 30-year-old featured in 38 matches for Newcastle last season, conceding 48 goals while securing 11 clean sheets in the top tier of England. The Magpies keeper has also represented Slokavia in 16 international matches thus far.
His incredible contributions in the previous campaign helped the Tyneside giants steer clear of the dreaded drop zone as they went on to earn a solid 13th placed finish in the Premier League.

The Magpies goalie can distribute the ball accurately from the back. He also has fast reflexes which allow him to pull off some magnificent saves in between the sticks. He is an assured handler of the ball and tends to position himself in the right areas when attempting to save a shot. Overall, the ex-Sparta Praha talent is a well-rounded goalkeeper, so it could be a fantastic coup for Spurs if they can land him before the start of the new campaign.

The addition of a capable keeper like Dubravka will undoubtedly improve the overall quality of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. However, the North London outfit already have a World Cup winning keeper in their team in Hugo Lloris.
Thus, this deal for Dubravka will only make sense if Pochettino wants to add more competition for the French keeper. Otherwise, Spurs are better off sticking with their captain for the time being as he still has a few good years left in him to play at a high level.
