According to the reports from Football Scotland, Celtic target Romain Perraud is looking for a move away from his club Nice in the summer. Reports had earlier emerged that the deal for the French left-back could be back on for Celtic after initially it was thought that the player’s wages could be a bit too much to afford for the Hoops.
Update from Perraud on his future
However, the latest interview from the full back is a piece of good news for Neil Lennon as the player’s heart seems to be set at moving away. He was quoted as saying (L’Equipe Via Football Scotland), ”I am under contract. I respect people, but this season, I did not receive a single call from then when was I performing very well.
“I am not even speaking about a contract extension offer, just to have a catch-up with me. This is a difficult situation, and I hope that it will decant very quickly. I have no news from the current representatives, but Nice have missed the boat with me. I want a new challenge.”
The fullback had spent the last season on loan with French second division outfit Paris FC. The player seems clearly miffed with the way he was treated at Nice and Celtic could now look to pounce on him in the transfer market. The 21-year-old played a handy role in the second division as Perraud made 32 appearances in all competitions and contributed with five goals and one assist last season.
Why Celtic need a left back?
The rumours of Arsenal wanting Kieran Tierney is heating up day by day. Celtic are likely to keep hold of him until the offer from the North London side is too good to ignore. The Bhoys have also lost the services of backup left-back Emilio Izaguirre whose contract has expired. Therefore even if Tierney stays, Lennon might want to add one more left back to his roster.
What will Perraud bring to Parkhead?
The 21-year-old French fullback is known for his attacking endeavours, and like many modern-day fullbacks, he is known for his contribution in the attacking half of the pitch. The youngster is pacey and can whip in delicious crosses down the left side.
He can hold his own at the back as well, but there is definite room for improvement on the defensive side of his game. The defender can even play in an advanced role down the left, so that is also going to be an asset for Lennon. However, Perraud could be troubled by the physicality of the Premiership, and he might take some time to settle in at the club.
