According to the latest reports from Daily Mail, Leeds United are looking to wrap up a deal for young winger Liam McCarron. The 18-year-old currently plies his trade for Carlisle United. Premier League club Wolves are also said to be interested. Derby County and Sheffield United are also monitoring McCarron’s situation, and they could also come up with a bid for him.
The Whites meanwhile are ready to come up with an offer of £250,000 to sign the winger early on in the transfer window. McCarron made 20 appearances in all competitions last season for League Two outfit Carlisle. Last season was the first time when he played at a senior level, and he seems to have caught the eye of the Leeds United scouts.
Carlisle’s director of football David Holdsworth confirmed that various clubs had shown an interest in the Preston born youngster. Holdsworth said, ”We have received interest from a number of parties regarding both Jarrad Branthwaite and Liam McCarron.”
Can the Whites lure him?
With Premier League clubs also interested, one might feel that the Whites haven’t got much of a chance to land this youngster. However, the reports mention that the West Yorkshire outfit are hopeful that they would have the edge over other rivals as they can offer McCarron more chances of regular game time. The winger has come up from Carlisle’s academy, and he is contracted to stay with them until 2020.
Why Leeds United need wingers?
The Whites are in desperate need of wingers, and various reports have mentioned that they might look to sign as many as three in this window. Ezgjan Alioski played on the left for the first half of the season, but he was below par in that role. Jack Harrison played down the left later on, and the Whites are looking to sign him again on loan. Pablo Hernandez played on the right but he is probably better off as an attacking midfielder as he doesn’t have the pace to go past defenders anymore.
McCarron: One for the future
McCarron was often utilised down the right flank, but we don’t see him as a first-team option just yet. The English youngster is known for his impressive pace and work rate. However, he is likely being seen as a player who would be developed with the youth squad further before he gets first-team opportunities.
Leeds fans will be slightly underwhelmed with them being linked with another young player as they desperately need first team options for the next season.
