According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in the services of Suso. The AC Milan attacker has been linked with a move away from San Siro following a remarkable campaign, with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino reportedly keen on bringing him to Tottenham Hotspur Arena this summer.
However, The North London giants could face fierce competition from arch-rivals Arsenal as well as West Ham United in the pursuit of the former Liverpool starlet.
Suso’s incredible season at Milan
Suso has become a real asset to Milan in recent years. Since joining the Rossoneri in a €1.3 million move from Liverpool, the Spaniard has made 136 appearances for the club across all competitions, during which he has been involved in 58 goals.
Suso was one of Serie A’s most effective playmakers in the recently concluded 2018/19 campaign. The 25-year-old scored five goals and registered nine assists, ending the season as Milan’s most productive attacker. His service in the final third also helped Milan finish fifth in the league table, although they were unfortunate to have narrowly missed out on Champions League football for next season.
What can Suso bring to the table?
Despite being advertised as a right-winger, Suso is someone who likes to cut inside and create scoring opportunities for his team. He has completed 98 key passes with a whopping ratio of 2.8 key passes per game – a tally only bettered by Atalanta superstar Alejandro Gomez (112) this past season.
He is also good at taking on defenders, having averaged almost two successful dribbles per game, completing 66 dribbles in total, which is eighth best in the league. Furthermore, Suso is a threat from long-range as well, thanks to his vicious left foot.
The 25-year-old has notably attempted 95 shots on goal – fifth highest by anyone who is not a centre-forward. Sixty-one of those shots have come from outside the box – a tally only bettered by Domenico Berardi and teammate Hakan Calhanoglu (again, among players who is not a striker).
Should Tottenham make a move for Suso?
Suso will be a stunning addition to Tottenham Hotspur. Although he is an inverted winger, his excellent chance creation coupled with his willingness to test the ‘keeper could make him a real asset to Pochettino’s setup next season.
Additionally, the Spaniard has previous exposure in English football, having spent a chunk of his career at Liverpool. He is also a versatile attacker, who can operate as an attacking midfielder, meaning he will able to provide cover for both Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli. And at the age of just 25, he could be a smart long-term investment for the Lilywhites.
