According to the latest reports from Daily Record, Leeds United have entered the race to sign Liverpool’s winger Ryan Kent. The Englishman enjoyed an impressive campaign for Scottish heavyweights Rangers recently where he won their young player of the season award. The Gers are again interested in him, but now they will have to fight with Premier League aspirants, Leeds United and newly promoted Aston Villa as well.
Leeds United and their left-wing woes
It is no surprise to see the Whites going after a winger as they desperately need to add a left winger to their squad. Recently they lost the services of Jack Harrison who returned to Manchester City after his loan spell ended. Ezgjan Alioski who played initially as a winger did a far better job as a fullback and we think that Bielsa should stick with him in defence.
The Whites have been linked with a move for Jack Harrison again, but it would be better for the club to look at other options. Manchester City are demanding an absurd price of £20m for him, so it doesn’t make sense to sign him.
Ryan Kent has had a loan spell in the Championship before with Bristol City, but he failed in that stint. However, we think that with more experience, he has come up leaps and bounds in the last few years and he can be an effective player for the Whites.
What will Kent bring to Elland Road?
The 22-year-old always had that pace and trickery in his repertoire, but his final product was always suspect. However, he improved on that front immensely while playing for Rangers in the second half of the season. His finishing and movement in the final third looked impressive, and he can turn out to be a smart signing for the Whites. Kent is also known for his remarkable work rate, and he should fit in well in the Bielsa system.
Can Leeds United sign him?
It’s tough to say right now as Kent performed well at Ibrox and he gave numerous indications that he will be willing to join them again. With Steven Gerrard as the manager, the former Liverpool man can pull some strings with the Liverpool hierarchy to bring him back.
However, Liverpool might be tempted to test him at the Championship level now after he did well in the Scottish Premiership. The Whites have already approached the Merseyside club, but it could all depend on what Liverpool would want for their English winger.
