Liverpool clashed heads with Huddersfield Town at Anfield earlier tonight hoping to go back to the top of the Premier League standings. The Reds made a quick start to the game as Naby Keita scored in the first minute. Sadio Mane doubled the home side’s advantage in the 23rd minute via his header. Mohamed Salah killed the contest off just before half-time when he scored with his chipped shot.
The second half was more of the same with wave after wave of Liverpool pressure in the Huddersfield half. Jurgen Klopp’s men scored two more goals through Mane and Salah to cap off an excellent 5-0 victory at Merseyside.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the encounter versus the Terriers.
GK: Alisson Becker – 7/10
His ball handling was spot on, and his distribution was pretty accurate as well. The Brazilian keeper kept another comfortable clean sheet at the back.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8/10
The English full-back was quite reliable defensively and also got an assist to show for his efforts.
CB: Dejan Lovren – 7/10
The Croat had a triumphant return to the first-team action as he managed to grind out a shut-out at Anfield.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 7.5/10
The Dutch centre-back organised his defence well and was hardly troubled by the Huddersfield attackers. It was another classy display from him tonight.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 8.5/10
The Scottish full-back put in some fantastic crosses from the left flank. He grabbed two well-deserved assists from the game which will please Jurgen Klopp.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 7.5/10
The Dutch midfielder put in another tireless display at the centre of the park. He retained possession well for the home team and created a few good openings during the contest.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 6/10
The Liverpool captain was guilty of throwing away possession quite a few times throughout the match, but he did manage to put in a brilliant cross in the lead up to Mane’s second goal.
CM: Naby Keita – 8/10
The Guinean came into this game in a rich vein of form, and he once again proved his worth tonight as he gave Liverpool the lead in the first minute.
RM: Mohamed Salah – 9/10
The Egyptian winger put in a man of the match display as he was a constant menace for the Terriers defenders. He scored two goals and got an assist as well tonight in front of a packed home crowd at Anfield.
ST: Daniel Sturridge – 5/10
The English striker got a rare start to impress due to Roberto Firmino’s injury. However, Sturridge looked ordinary at best as he failed to make a positive impact in the final third.
LM: Sadio Mane – 8.5/10
The Senegalese winger found the back of the net twice as he scored with two well-directed headers. His two goals have kept him well in contention to win the Premier League’s golden boot.
Substitutes:
CM: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 7/10
It was a nice little cameo from the former Arsenal midfielder. He created a few decent chances for his teammates and was unlucky not to have scored with his left-footed attempt in the second half.
RM: Xherdan Shaqiri – 7.5/10
The Swiss international played a delightful pass to Robertson in the build-up to Salah’s second goal.
RB: Joe Gomez – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact.
