Manchester United will play hosts to Chelsea at Old Trafford at the back of a disappointing 2-0 home loss at the hands of Manchester City. Hence, the Red Devils would be desperate to bounce back and make a return to winning ways this weekend.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will choose to go with a 3-5-2 formation and might name Romelu Lukaku back in his starting XI. The Belgian needs to strike up a good partnership with Marcus Rashford so that they can cause a lot of problems for the Chelsea defenders.
3-5-2 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Chelsea
David De Gea will lineup in goal despite his atrocious performance against Manchester City in midweek. The Spanish keeper will be supported by a back three of Matteo Darmian, Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling as they look to put in an improved shift this Sunday. Solskjaer will make sure that his team has enough numbers at the back to deal with Eden Hazard’s threat.
Man United have conceded nine goals in their past three matches which is not good enough for a club with UEFA Champions League aspirations for the next campaign.
Solskjaer might opt for a central midfield comprised of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Fred as they look to dictate play at the middle of the park. Ashley Young would feature on the right flank while Luke Shaw assumes the role of a left wing-back.
Pogba put in another dismal display at Old Trafford in his last league outing, so the Frenchman owes his fans a big performance this weekend. However, it won’t be easy as he might be up against his international compatriot N’Golo Kante in the battle to keep possession in midfield.
Scott McTominay would have to settle for a spot on the Man United bench and might be used later in the game if needed.
Solskjaer might opt for the strikeforce of Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford up top. Rashford had a frustrating outing against Man City and so he will be desperate to return to goal-scoring ways against the Pensioners this weekend.
Both Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial will be part of Solskjaer’s bench and might be brought on during the encounter if required.
