According to a recent report by the Metro, DC United attacking midfielder Luciano Acosta has revealed that he is happy Manchester United are monitoring his progress in the Major League Soccer this season. In a recent interview (via the Metro) after DC United’s 4-0 loss to Los Angeles FC, the Argentine ace said, ‘I’m obviously happy (Manchester United) was here—they came to see me, and obviously I just went out and tried my best.
‘Today wasn’t my day, we were up against a great opponent and in reality I’m just sad for the group’s performance today, and mine too.’
Luciano Acosta: A Rising MLS Star
The 24-year-old has made a strong start to this MLS campaign scoring one goal and creating one assist in five matches for the American outfit. Since making a permanent switch from Boca Juniors at the start of 2017, the Rosario born talent has gone on to make a total of 108 appearances, finding the back of the net on 20 occasions while providing 28 assists in all competitions.
There is no doubt that the Argentine is talented and knows how to score and create goals in the opposition half. He has been a joy to watch in Major League Soccer over the past couple of years and is expected to have a promising career ahead in world football. The Red Devils need a few fresh faces in the summer so that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a strong enough squad to challenge on all fronts next term and Acosta could be a realistic option for them.
What Does The Argentine Forward Offer On The Pitch?
At 24, Acosta is currently about to embark upon the peak years of his playing career which Man United could look to benefit from in the coming years. The Argentine sensation has decent pace and is a very productive dribbler with the ball at his feet. He has a terrific turn of speed which helps him get past his marker in the opposition half.
However, there are still some question marks regarding his ability to cope with the physical toll of Premier League football. Furthermore, Acosta won’t be a guaranteed a first-team place at Old Trafford with so many terrific players already plying their trade here.
Should Man United Make A Move For Him?
Hence, the best move for the attacking midfielder would be to look for a move to another club where competition for first team places are not so intense. As for Man United, they are better of opting for more proven talents at the European level. Solskjaer cannot afford to take risks especially when Man United are so far behind their rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League standings.
