Tottenham Hotspur are set to face their toughest challenge this season in the European stage as they take on the high flying Manchester City in the quarter-final encounter in their new stadium at White Hart Lane. Mauricio Pochettino is well aware of the might of the Citizens and would be looking to prepare a master plan good enough to stop them on the night.
Manchester City have been in prolific form this season and are fighting for the coveted quadruple. They have already won the EFL Cup and are in the final of the FA Cup. Guardiola’s men are also looking set to defend their Premier League title successfully. Now it is the turn of the most prestigious trophy that has eluded them for so long, with Tottenham standing in between them and a place in the semifinal of the Champions League.
Mauricio Pochettino has a few concerns to deal with though none of them are too worrying for the Argentine gaffer. While Serge Aurier and Eric Dier are set to miss the tonight’s clash with injury concerns, Fernando Llorente and Eric Lamela would be assessed ahead of the match.
Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, might be a little concerned about the injured players of his side. The list includes key players like Sergio Aguero and Kyle Walker, both of whom would be assessed before the match. Latest reports, however, indicate that Sergio Aguero is fit for tonight’s game against Spurs.
Fabian Delph will not play any part tonight owing to injury while Oleksandr Zinchenko is unsure about being a part of the squad for the next encounter.
Lloris, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Trippier, Sissoko, Rose, Eriksen, Dele, Moura, Kane.
Ederson, Walker, Laporte, Stones, Otamendi, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, David Silva, Sterling, Sane, Aguero.
Spurs will be dependent on their talisman, Harry Kane to get them over the line against Manchester City. It will be a massive test for Kane to show his mettle on the big stage. A lot will also depend on the midfield duo of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli while Jan Vertonghen would play a crucial role in the defence for the north London side.
The Citizens have several match-winners in their ranks. The likes of Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero are in prolific form this season and would look to get the better of the Spurs defence. Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva are expected to play an essential role in the middle of the pitch.
