Liverpool entertained Bayern Munich at Anfield yesterday night looking to secure a win in front of their home supporters. The Reds started the game a bit slow with the visitors looking the most likely to score the opener. However, Jurgen Klopp’s men came back into the game midway through the first half but just couldn’t manage to find the back of the net.
The second half was more of the same with the home team trying to score the opening goal of the contest. However, Bayern defended valiantly to come away with a 0-0 draw from the red half of Merseyside.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the match against Bayern Munich.
GK: Alisson Becker – 6/10
Despite giving away the ball cheaply on a few occasions in the first half, the Brazilian keeper showed his class and distributed the ball well in the second half.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
Kingsley Coman gave the English full-back lots of headaches during the early stages of the game. However, he put in a much-improved display in the second half to secure a well-deserved clean sheet.
CB: Joel Matip – 8/10
The Cameroonian made some terrific clearances during the match and commanded the Liverpool box with authority to help his team earn a shut-out at the back.
CB: Fabinho – 8/10
The Brazilian never looked like he was playing out of position and kept Robert Lewandowski quiet during the game.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 7.5/10
The Scottish full-back worked his socks off and was a wonderful outlet for the home team down the left flank.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 8.5/10
The Liverpool captain put in a flawless performance at the heart of the Reds midfield. He never put a foot wrong in the game and also created some excellent chances going forward.
CM: Naby Keita – 7.5/10
The Guinean was full of energy in midfield and made many penetrative runs in the opposition half. However, he struggled to find the killer pass in the final third.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 7/10
The Dutchman showed some clever touches inside the Bayern half but was not able to be productive in the attacking end of the pitch.
RM: Mohamed Salah – 6/10
The Egyptian winger came alive in the second half, but he didn’t get the rub of the green inside the Bayern penalty area.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 8/10
The Brazilian dropped deep and pulled strings from the number 10 position. He created some glorious opportunities for his teammates and looked like Klopp’s most potent weapon going forward.
LM: Sadio Mane – 5.5/10
The Senegalese speedster got some fantastic chances to score, but he failed to take any of them, much to the frustration of the Anfield faithful.
Substitutes:
ST: Divock Origi – 4/10
The Belgian hardly touched the ball after coming off the bench, so it is difficult to find the reasoning behind his substitution.
CM: James Milner – 6/10
He added some fresh energy to the Liverpool midfield and was also quite accurate with his passes.
