Newcastle United have had a tough time this season in the Premier League and have been able to scrap out only four wins out of their 17 matches so far. The Magpies have lacked firepower up front with players like Joselu and Ayoze Perez failing to fire. However, their hopes have been anchored on the one player, Salomon Rondon, whose consistent performances in recent times have handed the Tyneside club a huge boost in this relegation dogfight.
The Venezuela international has been in good form of late and has shown that it was a good decision on Rafa Benitez’s part to bring him to St James Park last summer. However, the player arrived on loan and the Spanish gaffer, according to The Mirror, is looking to tie him down on a permanent basis so that he can add the much-needed firepower to his attack.
As per the report, Newcastle United would be happy to secure the services of the on-loan West Brom striker, with the Baggies reportedly keen to keep a hold on tDwight Gayle, who went the other way when the loan deal was struck.
Rondon has been a considerable influence in the Newcastle United lineup, not only with his goalscoring prowess but also for his physical presence up front. While players like Joselu and Ayoze Perez have been easily bogged down by the opposition defenders, the 6ft1inch striker has gotten the better of them on most occasions.
Let us also not forget the fact that he has done the bulk of the scoring for the Magpies, having notched up five goals so far, with two of them coming in the last three matches.
Tying down the 29-year-old forward would be a massive boost for the Tyneside club, giving them a renewed hope of surviving in the top flight. While players like Yoshinori Muto have been utter wastage of money (with just a single goal in 11 matches so far) for a financially challenged club like Newcastle, investing in the right player is the need of the hour for the Magpies. This is why they need to get Rondon into the side on a permanent basis for the foreseeable future.
