As per the latest reports from the Mirror, Leeds United playmaker Samuel Saiz is likely to push for a move away in the coming January transfer period as it is believed that the Spaniard is unsettled at Elland Road and a bit homesick. The 27-year old’s wife is pregnant, and the midfielder is looking for a possible move to a Spanish club in the upcoming transfer window.
This should come as a big blow for the Whites given the razor-thin squad they have at the moment. The Spaniard has been a regular starter for Bielsa for the most parts this season, but in the past month, he has lost his place to former Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw.
However, Saiz is again back in the playing eleven because of injuries in various positions and the manager had to use midfielder Kalvin Phillips as a stop gap centre back. Reports from Yorkshire Evening Post add that the midfielder can move to La Liga outfit Getafe next month.
It is believed that the Whites are sympathetic towards Saiz’s situation and would want him to stay. This is not the first time when some foreign footballers’ wife has been pregnant, and numerous players have dealt with it by taking some time off by being on the side of their wife during the birth stage.
Saiz has had a poor season so far even though he was a regular at the beginning. The playmaker has made 19 appearances in the Championship but is yet to score a goal. In terms of work rate and movement, the 27-year-old has been good but his composure to find the right pass or take a shot in the final third has been lacking big time.
Let us also not forget that his style of play is sometimes a bit too individualistic in nature as he just gets his head down and keeps on running with the ball and gives possession away cheaply in trying to do everything by himself. As a result, Forshaw came into the team who has combined better with his other team-mates.
When everyone would be fit, Saiz is likely to stay on the bench, and someone like Izzy brown is also close to returning. Therefore the Spaniard might have chances few and far between based on current form. Though with injuries always a factor, he can play a big role in United’s promotion pursuit.
However, with two and a half year left on his contract, if there is a decent offer, maybe the Whites could look to sell him if the player wants to leave the club as it is never right to keep a player whose mind is already made up on departing.
