According to a recent report by talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur forward Fernando Llorente has revealed that he would ‘love’ to make a move back to his homeland to play in the La Liga once again. The Spaniard put on an eye-catching cameo after coming off the bench last night to help Spurs pull off a come from behind 2-1 win at home against PSV Eindhoven.
In a recent interview with talkSPORT’s Universo Premier, the Tottenham frontman said, “Being a player with a game changer role is not enough for anyone.
“All the players want to play. Always. The more the better. But this is the role I am having now, I try to give my best and be ready for whenever the manager needs me.”
The Spanish talent also added, “I haven´t received any offer ahead of the January transfer window. I am calm, we will see.”
“I have been a long time away from home [Spain] and I would love to return in La Liga. We will see.
“I haven´t closed the door to Athletic de Bilbao. I grew up at Athletic and had excellent memories at the club. We will see and make a decision depending on what comes.”
It is clear from Llorente’s comments that he is eager to seal a move back to Spain, preferably to Bilbao after being left frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities since making a switch to North London from Swansea City in the summer of 2017.
The 33-year-old has made just six appearances for Spurs this season, scoring one goal while providing one assist in all competitions. He has been a fantastic option for Mauricio Pochettino to call upon from the bench when Tottenham are in need of a goal.
Llorente is a vastly experienced forward who knows how to find the back of the net even with limited game time. The Pamplona born talent had previously won the 2008 UEFA Euro Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain, so he knows how to win at the highest level.
However, as Llorente is about to embark upon the twilight years of his career, it might be the best option for all parties if he can return to Spain in search of more first-team chances in the coming months. Hence, Spurs should not stand in his way and needs to find a suitable replacement for him so that the Spaniard can get his wish and move on to greener pastures.
