According to a recent report by the Sun, Paul Pogba’s days at Manchester United could be numbered after being told by Jose Mourinho that he would never captain the club again. The French international has fallen out of favour with the United boss and is being tipped to make a move away from Old Trafford when the transfer window opens in January.
However, Mourinho has revealed that there is no fall-out between him and Pogba. He said, “I made the decision for Paul not to be the second captain any more.
“It was exactly the same person who decided Paul was the second captain. No fall-out at all, just decisions I do not have to explain.”
The Red Devils suffered a humiliating exit at the hands of Derby County in the third round of the Carabao Cup which has put even more pressure on the United manager.
Pogba has already shown glimpses of brilliance during the course of this season, but he has been far too inconsistent with his performances which have often seen his team suffer because of it. Now that the captain’s armband has been stripped from him, the Frenchman’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain.
Pogba’s Man United Career In A Nutshell
The French midfielder graduated from the Man United academy before moving on to Juventus. His success with Juve in the Serie A saw him make a high-profile return back to Manchester in the summer of 2016. Since returning to Old Trafford, the 25-year-old has made 95 appearances for United, scoring 19 goals while grabbing 20 assists in all competitions.
What Does The Frenchman Add To Mourinho’s Side?
Pogba is physically strong and is a complete athlete. He has an outstanding passing range and can dribble with the ball quickly while making full use of his incredible strength to get past the opposition defenders. The Frenchman is an excellent asset for the Reds of Manchester as he is an all-around midfielder who has the potential to become the best player in his position.
Can The Red Devils Cope With The Loss Of Pogba?
The French midfielder might be inconsistent, yet he is still one of the best players that Mourinho has at his disposal. The United boss should look to find a middle ground and build a team around Pogba rather than let him leave because of a fall-out. However, if the Portuguese manager can use the money generated from his sale to bring in a suitable replacement, then it could work in the long-run.
For now, it is clear that United’s success this season hinges on Paul Pogba’s performances on the pitch so the best thing for Mourinho would be to forgive and forget.
