Sergio Ramos might not be the most popular players across the world given his on-field antics and his so-called rude demeanour off the pitch but given a chance, most fans would jump when presented with an opportunity to have a player like him in their team. The defender is a leader and wears his heart on his sleeves. Same goes for Alfredo Morelos of Rangers. His antics on the pitch, the way he ruffles up the opponent, the way he sometimes bullies the defender using his physicality might not make him a popular player among the rival fan base but one thing for sure is that he is effective in what he does.
The 22-year-old Colombian striker was signed last season from Finnish club HJK and since then, he has gone on to become one of the fan favourites at the club in just over a year. Now the explosive forward did something again which would make the Gers fan proud. Even though he was suspended for the Gers’ opening Europa League clash against Villarreal, Morelos travelled with the team all the way to Spain to support his team-mates.
Even Gerrard was impressed with that decision as he was quoted as saying,”It’s brilliant and it was Alfredo’s decision. It was optional for a couple of players and one decided to stay, one decided to come. I’m absolutely delighted he’s come as it shows me he wants to be part of it and cheer his team-mates on. The option was to train one on one with a physio or sports scientist or come and support his team-mates and help in a different way. I’m absolutely delighted he’s come.”
The Colombian has made 14 appearances so far this season in all competitions and has returned a tally of six goals and four assists. Such performances would definitely bring a lot of attention towards him when the transfer window opens but Morelos is definitely showcasing that he absolutely loves his team and team-mates at Glasgow.
His overall stats with the Teddy Bears is more than impressive as the Colombian has got 24 goals and 12 assists in 57 appearances. Such impressive numbers have even led to him being called by the national team and the forward has often given the credit to the club for getting the best out of him. With more time at the club, Morelos would be expected to get better.
The striker was subject to some interest from various clubs in the summer but Gerrard did indicate that they were not going to sell their best player. Morelos has the potential to be one of the biggest names to play for the club in recent times as his career graph is definitely on an upward curve.
The Colombian forward did indicate that the Premier League is his dream destination but even if he stays at the club for the next two-three seasons, he can be an absolute darling of the fans till that time and his recent gesture to travel with team even when he was unavailable to play will definitely go down well in the Gers faithful hearts.
