Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves ahead of a potential move in January. According to the Birmingham Mail, the Red Devils are keeping tabs on the Portuguese international, but Wolves are not willing to part ways with their prized asset in January.
The Rise Of Ruben Neves
Since making a switch from FC Porto in the summer of 2017, Neves had lit up the EFL Championship with some glorious displays for the Wanderers last season. The 21-year-old has managed to do the same this season in the Premier League and even scored with a wonderful free-kick in the opening match of the season against Everton.
His outstanding contributions for the West Midlands outfit this term has seen him get rewarded with a place in the Portuguese national squad. Neves featured for 86 minutes for his country in their 1-1 draw versus Croatia last week. He has slowly managed to establish himself amongst the best young players in European football, which is why it shouldn’t be a surprise that a club of Manchester United’s stature are chasing his signature.
What Does Neves Bring To Mourinho’s Side?
Neves is a complete midfielder who has a knack for scoring and creating goals. The Portuguese sensation is a magnificent passer of the ball and is not afraid to go long when an attacker makes a decent run behind the opposition defence. The 21-year-old wonderkid packs a lot of power with his shots from distance which makes him a threat from set-pieces.
Is He The Right Fit For The Red Devils?
United are in need of a difference maker in the midfield and Neves fits the bill well. He is a perfect deep-lying holding midfielder who can distribute the ball well, which is precisely what the Red Devils are looking for! Neves is also Portuguese and will suit Jose Mourinho’s style of play at Old Trafford.
However, a lot will depend on whether he gets regular game time in Manchester, especially if players like Paul Pogba and Fred are still playing in Mourinho’s starting XI. Neves needs regular first-team football if he wants to fulfil his real potential and for now, staying at Wolves could be the right course of action for the player. However, for United, this deal is a no-brainer, and Mourinho should do everything in his power to convince the Portuguese starlet to make a switch to Old Trafford pretty soon.
