As per latest reports, Arsenal are preparing a £25m move for Croatian defender Domagoj Vida who is also targeted by Liverpool. However, the Gunners board will only sanction the move if Unai Emery is able to get rid of either Danny Welbeck or Shkodran Mustafi in the transfer window.
Mustafi is linked with a move away from the club but Galatasaray are only interested in a loan move for him and that doesn’t bode well for the London based club. Vida shot into limelight after impressive displays in the World Cup where he formed a formidable partnership with Dejan Lovren which helped Croatia reach the World Cup finals for the first time.
A lot of English clubs have been linked with him but nothing has materialised as of now as the transfer window draws to an end. Besiktas acquired him for free in the January transfer window and they are in with a great opportunity to make a huge profit on the 29-year-old defender.
The defence was an Achilles heel for the Gunners last season and they have already acquired the likes of Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Stephan Lichsteiner and Bernd Leno to solve some of those defensive frailities. With Laurent Koscielny still out with an injury, many are of the opinion that Emery should go after another defender in the transfer market.
Vida might have impressed for his national side but he is yet to prove himself in the top leagues of the world. His only big break came with Bayer Leverkusen where he lasted just one season so spending 25m odd for an unproven player in the Premier League can backfire. However, t is true that Arsenal should definitely look to add another defensive cover to their squad.

With very few days in the transfer market to go, Arsenal will have to step up if they want to land Vida, as first, they will have to offload Mustafi or Welbeck.
