Derby County have clinched a move for Brentford wide man Florian Jozefzoon this summer. The club has confirmed on their official website that the Rams have beaten Leeds United in the race to sign the Bees’ sensation during this summer transfer period. It is understood that the Dutchman had his medical yesterday and has now penned a three-year deal with the East Midlands club in a deal believed to be in the region of £2.75m.
Some sources have recently claimed that the new Derby boss Frank Lampard has successfully negotiated a deal for the Championship talent, who has settled into the English second tier well since his arrival at Griffin Park from PSV Eindhoven in the winter transfer window of 2017. The 27-year-old has put in a number of jaw-dropping displays for the Bees during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by the Rams.
The Dutch midfielder is quite versatile and can play on either flank which makes him a perfect fit for Lampard’s team. Jozefzoon is pretty direct with his runs and is quite brave while taking on opposition defenders, something that the current batch of Derby players are lacking. Hence, a move to Pride Park makes sense as he is exactly the kind of talent who can flourish under the guidance of Lampard but at the same time, it will be a bitter blow for Marcelo Bielsa’s Peacocks.
The Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni born prospect had featured in 58 matches in the English Championship, finding the back of the net 8 times while grabbing 9 assists so far. He also has a lot of experience in the Dutch Eredivisie and has represented the Dutch national side at the youth level.
The recent development indicates that Bielsa needs to look somewhere else if he wants to add some wide players during this ongoing window. The Whites are in need of a few more quality additions this summer if they are to compete on all fronts in the upcoming season.
The potential addition of Jozefzoon would have undoubtedly bolstered Bielsa’s attacking options at Elland Road. The 27-year-old winger can light up the league with his flashy talents which is why it will feel like a hammer blow for the Peacocks.
Leeds have some talented wingers in their ranks such as Pablo Hernandez, Samuel Sáiz, Ezgjan Alioski, Hadi Sacko and Stuart Dallas, who are all vying for a place on the wings in Bielsa’s first XI.

At 27, the Dutch speedster is currently at his peak which the Rams will look to benefit from, in the next few seasons. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Jozefzoon and whether the Peacocks are able to find a suitable replacement for him before the start of the new campaign.
