Manchester City have been offered a chance to seal a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara this summer. According to recent reports, the German giants are willing to let the Spaniard leave with City interested in securing his services during this summer transfer window.
It is believed that Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of the 27-year-old’s talents and wants to be reunited with his former player, whom he managed during his time at the Allianz Arena. Some sources have recently claimed that the champions of England are in no rush to sign a midfielder in the coming weeks following the collapse of their deal for Jorginho, however, they won’t hesitate to make an offer if Thiago was available for the right price.
The Spanish midfield enforcer has put in a number of eye-catching displays for Bayern over the last few years which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Although, there are still question marks over his fitness and his performance at the 2018 FIFA World Cup left a lot to be desired.
Thiago had featured in 32 matches for the Bavarian outfit last season, scoring 7 goals while grabbing 4 assists in all competitions. He has also earned 31 international caps for the Spanish national team and has two goals to his name so far. The 27-year-old is exactly the kind of player who can thrive under the leadership of Guardiola in the City midfield if given the opportunity to prove his worth at the Etihad Stadium.
The Mancunian outfit cruised to a domestic double last season but Guardiola would be aware that he needs to strengthen his squad if City are to challenge on all fronts in the upcoming campaign.
The addition of Thiago will undoubtedly bolster Guardiola’s midfield options ahead of the new season. The Citizens has some promising midfield talents such as Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Fernandinho, İlkay Gündoğan and Fabian Delph vying for a place in midfield in their first XI. The potential acquisition of Thiago will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the City squad.
