At 31 years of age, David Luiz is not getting any younger. A fan favourite at Stamford Bridge but no more a mainstay in the starting 11 of the team. Reports suggest that new Napoli head coach Carlo Ancelotti is keen to put Luiz out of his misery at Chelsea by offering him a place on the Napoli team. A fee in principle has not been reached between the two clubs as of yet but the prospect of Luiz reuniting with Carlo Ancelotti might help speed up the process.
David Luiz joined Chelsea in 2011 where he spent 3 years as a Blue before joining Paris Saint-Germain. He returned to West London in 2016 and was a key figure in a new look three-man defence along with captain Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta. Luiz was instrumental that season as Chelsea went on to secure the Premier League title under new manager Antonio Conte.
The Brazilian defender was in exceptional form and was tipped to keep his place in the back line despite Chelsea signing German defender Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma. Andreas Christensen was also called back from his loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach which was the start of the end to Luiz’s regular playing time. After questioning manager Conte’s tactics, Luiz found himself on the sidelines more and more for Chelsea as he was dropped from the bench and then dropped from the squad.
Due to a poor season personally for the defender, his chances of representing Brazil at the World Cup in Russia came to an end as Brazil coach Adenor Bacchi, better known as Tite, decided against taking the player to Russia. David Luiz must now push for a move away from Chelsea as he looks to find more game time. Chelsea are looking to the future now and the younger players are starting to make more of an impact on the training pitch and on the field of play.
Napoli would benefit from signing the Brazilian defender as Luiz would bring experience and reliability to the dressing room. Luiz has had a successful career so far as he has gone on to accumulate a number of major honours with Benfica, Chelsea and PSG. He will take his winning mentality with him to Napoli as the Italian club looks to secure silverware for the first time ever since 2014 when they edged past Juventus to the Supercoppa Italiana and beat Fiorentina to be crowned the Coppa Italia champions.

Luiz perhaps might never adorn a Chelsea shirt again but the Samba superstar will always have a place in the hearts of the Chelsea faithful.
