Burnley have dropped their interest in West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez this summer. According to recent reports, the Clarets were priced out of a move for the English forward during this summer transfer period.
It is believed that Sean Dyche’s side were looking to snap up both Rodriguez and Craig Dawson from the Baggies but were priced out of a move after the West Midlands club demanded a fee in the region of £40m for the duo. Some sources had earlier claimed that the Lancashire side made a combined bid of £25m for both players which was declined by Darren Moore’s team.
It has also been revealed that the Baggies are demanding at least £18m for Rodriguez which Burnley are reluctant to match. The English forward is eager to make a return to the English top-flight and is also on Bournemouth‘s radar so his future at the Hawthorns is still not certain.
A player of Rodriguez’s quality won’t be content with Championship football so it is no surprise that he wants to leave in search of more challenging adventures. However, West Brom’s desire to sell him for the right price could mean that they could potentially go into the new season with an unhappy player in Moore’s squad.
Hence, the Baggies should definitely look to cash in on him rather than drag his transfer out as they can use the money generated from his sale to strengthen other areas of their squad. The West Midlands were relegated from the English top tier last season so Darren Moore should look to make some smart additions to help his side bounce back next season and earn a place back in the Premier League.
Retaining some of their best talents like Rodriguez could go a long way in helping West Brom compete for a playoff place in the Championship next term. So they should do everything in their power to keep the player happy as he could be an integral member of the West Brom squad in the coming years.

At 28, Rodriguez still has his prime years ahead of him which the Baggies could look to benefit from, in the new few seasons. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Burnley-born forward and whether he ends up sealing a move away from the Hawthorns before the start of the new season.
