Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to secure the services of Barcelona midfielder Rafinha this summer. According to recent reports, Spurs are in pole position to seal a move for the Brazilian talent this summer. However, they are not the only ones looking to recruit the Brazilian and will face stiff competition from London rivals West Ham United in pursuit of his signature.
The 25-year-old went out on loan to Inter Milan last season where he put in a number of eye-catching displays which have not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Some sources are now claiming that Spurs are in the driver’s seat to secure a deal for the Brazilian ace, who is currently valued in the region of £30m by the Catalans.
However, recent reports are also suggesting that the Hammers are ready to step up their chase which will be a cause for concern for Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs. Only time will tell whether the North Londoners can fend off interest from West Ham in their attempts to land Rafinha in the coming weeks.
Pochettino’s side managed to claim a third-place finish in the league last term but it was another season without any major trophies for the Tottenham faithful. The Argentine manager needs to add more quality to his squad by acquiring some top-class talents in the summer so that they can mount a realistic title charge in the upcoming season.
The potential addition of Rafinha will definitely bolster Pochettino’s midfield options ahead of the new season. The North London side has some top-class midfielders in their ranks such as Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks vying for a place at the centre of the park in Pochettino’s starting XI. The acquisition of Rafinha will improve their squad depth significantly and add more competition for places within the Tottenham squad.

At 25, the Barca midfielder is yet to hit his peak years which Tottenham could look to capitalise on, in the next few years. The Brazilian maestro is also quite versatile and can operate as a central midfielder or down the right flank which makes him a perfect fit for Spurs. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Rafinha and whether he ends up making a move to White Hart Lane in search of more challenging adventures this summer.
