Chelsea may not have the strongest squad in England at the moment but they certainly have the finest youngsters on display in their academy and in their loan system. They had over 30 players out on loan last season at various clubs and will now have to resolve the futures of most of those players.
One such player, who is now wanted by Frank Lampard at Derby County is Jay Dasilva.
A product of the academy at Luton, his hometown, Dasilva joined Chelsea’s academy in 2012 and spent four years on the sidelines before being sent out on loan to Charlton Athletic in two stints, starting from January last year.
He established himself as the first choice at Charlton, picking up two goals in 38 league starts, standing as the first choice left-back for the side. He was also used in most of the domestic cup competitions and showed great maturity beyond his years, and stood as one of the most consistent players in League One last season.
He only signed his first professional contract with Chelsea in 2015, after his impressive displays in the UEFA Youth League that year, where Chelsea’s young guns went all the way to lift the trophy. He has also played for England in each of the age groups and will surely look to fight hard for a place in the national side in years to come.
His progress saw the Blues decide to retain him for the long term and only signed him on a new four-year deal last summer before he was sent back to Charlton. He was the player of the year for the League One club but failed to get past Shrewsbury Town in the playoffs but his performances at The Valley certainly show that he is ready for the next step.

So it does not come as a surprise that Charlton themselves are interested in taking him on loan yet again, but he is wanted in the Championship this time around, with Frank Lampard looking to take him to Pride Park to help him out on his debut season at Derby County as a manager.
The former Chelsea midfielder will certainly give Dasilva a chance to impress in the first team and the Championship is a certain rise in quality for the full-back to play in. So it is a step in the right direction and Chelsea are better off sending him to Derby with Lampard rather than keeping him or sending him back to Charlton.
