If latest reports are to be believed, Leeds United are looking to bring in Ousseynou Cisse, the 27-year-old Mali international from MK Dons. The midfielder was a regular feature for them in midfield as he made 36 appearances in all competitions. The Whites are in need of defensive cover as they have struggled to keep clean sheets at the back and this signing might solve some of their issues.
MK Dons, however, had a poor season as they finished 23rd in their division and that is certainly a huge fall from grace for them. They were making inroads in English football as they famously defeated Manchester United in the League Cup but they seem to have lost their way in the past few years.
Paul Heckingbottom will be in need of reinforcements if he wants the Whites to be anywhere near the playoff spot. The former Barnsley manager who came to Elland Road in February hasn’t been able to inspire his side since he took over and has managed just four wins in his sixteen games in charge.
The signing of Cisse might mean that Conor Shaughnessy’s time in the first eleven will be reduced. The youngster was given his first senior cap by Thomas Christiansen and it was expected that he will slowly go on to establish himself in the first eleven. However, injuries limited his game time since January and it will be interesting to whether Heckingbottom will use him next season.
Leeds United also have Vurnon Anita at their disposal but Heckingbottom has often used him in the fullback role as Laurens De Bock has been below par in the left-back role. Cisse started his youth career with French heavyweights Paris Saint Germain.
He was signed by MK Dons in 2017 and he is contracted to stay until 2019. It will be interesting to see whether Cisse will be able to cut the mustard at the Championship level as his team MK Dons have had a torrid season in their league.

Paul Heckingbottom needs some proven players to resurrect the form of his side and the signing of Cisse might backfire. However, he isn’t going to cost them much so the Peacocks can take a punt on him. The midfielder will be expected to do his defensive duties well and keep things ticking in midfield and only the future will tell whether the signing of the Malian international will be a gamble worth taking.
