Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has expressed his fondness for Ander Herrera and has made it clear that the Spanish midfielder is in his long term plan and will be involved in most of the games for United.
Manchester United displayed a scintillating brand of football as they thrashed defending champions Leicester City 4-1 on Saturday. Paul Pogba scored his maiden goal for United while Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Chris Smalling were all on target for the home side. Demarai Gray reduced the deficit for the Premier League champions by a thumping scorcher.
Mourinho started Pogba and Herrera in the midfield. Herrera was deployed in front of the back four to thwart the Leicester City attack and he didn’t let his Portuguese gaffer down. He was all over the field and his smooth passing was the reason behind United’s most attacks on the day. His slick link-up play really helped Pogba settle down to do his things.
The Spaniard was signed from Athletic Bilbao for £28.9m and has been struggling to fit into the starting XI at Manchester United.
He scored a goal in United’s 3-1 win over Northampton Town in EFL Cup.
Mourinho added: “I like him [Herrera]. That’s why I think he’ll be with me almost every match. Sometimes he starts, sometimes he’s on the bench.”
