Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda was loaned out to Celtic in the January transfer window. The youngster was given an opportunity to prove himself in Scotland and thereby earn his way into the first team at Chelsea or maybe even something bigger. It now seems that Musonda’s loan spell has not quite worked out the way it was planned and the Belgian could be bringing in a premature end to his stay at Celtic.
He said on his Instagram account: “I’d like to thank all of the Celtic family, spending the second half of the season in such a prestigious club with its incredible fans was an experience to cherish, to receive number 67 and have your incredible support, everywhere in Glasgow was amazing.
“I will never forget the noise of a European night at the Park, and to be a part of it and witness it first hand was an experience that’s made me more hungry for that stage, and that’s thanks to you, and the players that just won the league 7 times in a row, and hopefully a double Treble,
“I will be a supporter of Celtic forever, I’d like to thank Brendan Rodgers for giving me that opportunity and guidance every single day, as I continue on my quest.”
Musonda joined Chelsea as a promising teenager but despite being highly talented, he was lost in the Chelsea youth system, as has happened with many players. The Blues herd out players in numbers and do not really oversee their development by keeping them at the club. Musonda did his bit while out on loan and impressed at Spain playing for Real Betis.
He was a star winger at the club and his impressive performances earned him a move back to Stamford Bridge where he was incorporated into the first team under Antonio Conte. However, the Italian barely used the winger and Musonda grew frustrated at Chelsea.
In came the opportunity to play for Celtic and Musonda left for the Hoops on a 18-month long loan deal. The player has, however, failed to create an opening for himself at the club and it seems now he will be returning to Chelsea. Although Celtic should do just fine without a loan player, the Hoops should think once more before letting him go.

Musonda is a proven talent and a budding player. Celtic are set to be challenged harder next season both in the domestic and the European circuit and they must be careful about their squad size and Musonda could still prove to be a quality addition for a team like Celtic given his talent.
He has proven himself in the past to be a star player if given the license and the confidence to take over on the wings and if Celtic end up losing Patrick Roberts on the wings, Musonda can prove to be an able replacement if Rodgers’ manages to inspire the winger.
