Newcastle United are lining up a move for Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham this summer. According to recent reports, the Magpies are looking to secure the signature of the Blues striker when the transfer window opens in the summer. It is believed that Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is eager to make a move for the 20-year-old’s services in this upcoming transfer period.
Recent reports have suggested that the Tyneside club are ready to ship out both Aleksander Mitrovic and Joselu this summer which would mean that they would need to bring in some firepower up top. Abraham fits the bill perfectly and has a massive potential to become a future star in English football.
Benitez has previously made an attempt to acquire the London-born striker but the striker chose to move to Swansea City. However, Chelsea are willing to let him go out on loan again and some sources are now claiming that the Magpies are set to get the first option for acquiring him in this post-season.
Abraham has had a mediocre season while on loan at the Liberty Stadium and his contributions were not enough to save the Welsh outfit from being relegated to the Skybet Championship. He has made 39 appearances for the Swans this term, scoring 8 goals while grabbing 5 assists in all competitions.
The Magpies finished their league campaign in the 10th position while scoring only 39 goals in 38 league matches. Benitez is in dire need of some more firepower up top as he looks to build a team capable of challenging for a European place in the next campaign. The potential acquisition of Abraham will definitely bolster Benitez’s attacking options going into the new season. Newcastle have forwards such as Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez, Islam Slimani and Josely competing for a place in their first-team. The addition of Abraham will undoubtedly improve their squad and add more competition for places within Benitez’s team.
The English talent is extremely versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the frontline. Abraham primarily plays as a centre-forward but can also feature on either flank which makes him a perfect fit for the Magpies. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Abraham and whether he ends up plying his trade at St. James Park next season.
