Atletico Madrid are keeping tabs on the progress of Celtic defender Kieran Tierney ahead of a potential move in the summer. According to recent reports, the La Liga outfit are monitoring the Scottish full-back’s situation at Celtic Park and could make a move for him when the transfer window opens in the summer.
Some sources are now claiming that Diego Simeone’s side will watch Tierney in action when he laces up for the Bhoys in the Scottish Cup final. It is being reported that the Spanish giants are set to battle with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Celtic defensive ace’s signature in this upcoming transfer period.
Kierney has put in some solid performances during the course of this campaign which has not gone unnoticed. He can be considered as one of the most talented young defenders in European football which makes him an attractive prospect for the Madrid-based side. The 20-year-old has featured in 54 matches for the Glaswegian team this season, scoring 4 goals while creating 11 assists in all competitions. The Scottish left-back has graduated from the Celtic academy and has also managed to earn 9 international caps for the Scottish national team.
Celtic have won the league title by a country mile and are also set to win the Scottish Cup if they can beat Motherwell in the final on Saturday. The Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers needs to bring in a few fresh faces in this summer transfer window in order to maintain their dominance in domestic competitions while also challenging the top teams of Europe in the Champions League next season.
Retaining some of their promising young talents like Tierney could go a long way in helping them win some major silverware in the next few years. The Bhoys should do all they can to retain Tierney’s services for the long-run as he has the potential to a future star in Scottish football. At 20, the Scotsman has a lot of potential which he can fulfil at Celtic Park as long as Rodgers is ready to back him like he did during this campaign.
The Celtic youngster is extremely versatile and can play in a number of different positions across the pitch. He primarily operates as a left-back but can also fill in as a central defender or on a more advanced role down the left flank which makes him a perfect fit for any of his potential suitors. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Tierney and whether he ends up making a switch out of Glasgow in the summer.
