Everton have reignited their interests in their former managerial target, Marco Silva. Sam Allardyce’s stint with the Toffees is about to come to an end as Farhad Moshiri plans on lifting the side up to the top-six of the Premier League, something the former England head coach has failed to achieve this season.
Silva is still without a job after getting fired from his position as Watford manager. The irony of the situation is striking since the sole reason for him getting the axe was Everton’s strongarm interest in the 40-year-old at that point of time. The Portuguese had strongly considered replacing Ronald Koeman at the Goodison and this prompted the Hornets ownership to pull the trigger.
We all imagined that Silva would have found a new club by now, following his track record with the Golden Boys. Under the Portuguese’s guidance, Watford were in the top-half of the league table earlier on in the campaign and was closely contesting Burnley for the 7th spot.
He had implemented an attractive brand of football at Vicarage Road and the fans looked happy with their newly appointed man. Unfortunately, it all turned south when Moshiri’s words entered the ears of the former Sporting boss. Watford hit a downward curve and kept sliding down the table with a run of poor losses.
It was almost imminent for Silva to get sacked and somehow the post at Merseyside was subsequently occupied by Allardyce (who at the time had retired from football). A baffling set of events in the life of the 40-year-old who was just starting to establish his name in the English top-flight.
After all, the stink of getting Hull City relegated carried with him for quite some time and the opening half of the 2017/18 season was enough to prove otherwise. He has won silverware during his earlier stint with Estoril, winning the Segunda Liga title and with Sporting Lisbon, the Taca de Portugal (Portuguese Cup) in 2015. He saw off Olympiakos to the Greek Super League in the following season and was picked up by the Tigers.
Silva does not necessarily promise longevity with his position or a guarantee of results. He is a young and ambitious head who still needs to break strides in the English game. Everton are on a similar path of getting transformed into one of the country’s elite.

Paired with the obscene spending luxury Moshiri has offered his last two managers, maybe Silva will be able to deliver the expected results in the coming season.
