Chelsea have made their way to the Final of the FA Cup to fix a meeting with Manchester United, having beaten Southampton by 2-0. A clinical performance from the Blues saw them score both the goals in the second half with Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata getting their names on the scoresheet.
The Pensioners had a rather comfortable time out on the pitch in both halves as Southampton never looked to put them under severe pressure except for a few occasions. However, there were a few moments of brilliance from the Saints, which could have got them on level terms with their opponents but they failed to capitalise on them and the outcome is in front of us all.
Chelsea, having failed to make any significant impact in the Premier League this season, are clinging to their FA Cup hopes to appease their fans, who are, evidently, far from being happy with the performance of the Premier League champions from the last season. However, it goes without saying that the Blues will have a tough time in the Final with Manchester United, another side who have won nothing this season so far, being their opponents.
This is how the Chelsea players are rated in their convincing win against Southampton.
Willy Caballero: 7
The Argentine goalkeeper ensured that nothing went past him in this match. Though he did not have much to do throughout the match, a crucial save to deny Ryan Bertrand was the highlight of the match for the veteran custodian.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 7
The Spaniard had another good outing and was involved in the second goal that saw Morata doubling the lead.
Gary Cahill: 7
The Englishman was at it again and played his heart out in the defence to ensure that his side made it past the Saints to get into the Final.
Antonio Rudiger: 5
Looked out of position on a number of occasions. However, no harm was done by the disciplined performances of Azpilicueta and Cahill.
Victor Moses: 6
Did not contribute to the attack but looked good defensively.
Emerson: 6
The Brazilian was caught out of position a few times but recovered well to help his team see off the opposition.
N’Golo Kante: 8
The French enforcer has been playing like a machine since his arrival at the West London outfit and there was no exception to that in this match as well. He battled against the opponent attackers to keep the ball at his feet and made pinpoint passes for his teammates.
Cesc Fabregas: 7
Gave good assistance to Kante in securing possession in the midfield and looked good in his position.
Willian: 7
Another good performance from the Brazilian. Hit the bar early in the match. Did not look pleased with his substitution.
Eden Hazard: 9
The Belgian talisman proved his worth once again in the Chelsea colours and was determined to take his team to the final. Dished out a number of brilliant skills and looked positive throughout the match.
Olivier Giroud: 8
Opened the scoring for the Blues in the 46th minute and looked in good touch. Was involved in link-up play.
Substitutions
Tiemoue Bakayoko: 5
Did not have a good game, as usual.
Pedro: 7
Looked good in the midfield after he was brought on.
Alvaro Morata: 8
Scored with his head once again to seal the victory for the Blues after missing a few chances with his feet.
