Recent reports claim that Chelsea are ready to make a swoop for long-time Arsenal target, Aleksandr Golovin. While the player has been closely linked with a link to one of the London clubs, the Blues want to whisk him away before the summer window.
Maybe a bidding war will ensue but to how much lengths will either side go? Golovin has racked up over 100 appearances for his present club, CSKA Moscow, 39 of those registered this season along with 6 goals and 5 assists.
At 21, he is still coming into his own with the Russian outfit and is showing signs of great future promise. He has been capped 33 times for the Russian youth sides and 17 times for the senior squad.
Golovin has earned himself a starting spot after making his debut on 14 March 2015 against FC Mordovia Saransk. The Russian is best suited to the number 10 role but can appear from a deeper position as well.
His creative abilities are well beyond his years and can be further developed within the realms of Premier League football. The 21-year-old impressed his primary suitors in the Europa League Quarter Final stage despite losing 3-6 on aggregate.
Wenger is lining up replacements for the distant possibility of Jack Wilshere leaving the Emirates after this season. The Englishman’s contract will be up and Aaron Ramsey can follow in his shoes after the 2018/19 season.
However, Chelsea do have serious intentions of making summer reinforcements as well and could take a more aggressive approach to this move. Their midfield has lacked the creative edge with both Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater spending majority of the season out on sidelines with injury.
Cesc Fabregas might an able playmaker but he no longer has the legs to play over 40 games in a season. Their most prized possession, Eden Hazard is also expected to quit the Stamford Bridge following Chelsea’s failure to grab a Champions League spot this season.
Real Madrid have expressed heavy interest and are prepared to spend big on the Belgian international.
If Antonio Conte leaves after this season, some of the players like Bakayoko and Drinkwater might just follow him on his way out. That could potentially open up a major role for Golovin with the years in front of him for further development.

All summer moves will hedge on Roman Abramovich’s decision to either keep Conte for another season or the next manager who comes in replace the Italian. So, it will be interesting to see what happens to their resolution of landing the 21-year-old Russian midfielder when the summer transfer window opens.
