Manchester City have rekindled their interest in Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez ahead of a potential move in the summer. According to recent reports, the Citizens could come back in for the Algerian international’s signature in the summer after they were heavily linked with a move for the 27-year-old’s signature during the January transfer window.
Pep Guardiola is looking to strengthen his squad in the off-season as they look to maintain their dominance in both domestic and European football. Some sources are now claiming that the Foxes are lining up a move for Norwich City’s James Maddison as a replacement for Mahrez, who is bound to part ways with the West Midlands outfit this summer.
Mahrez has featured in 35 matches for the Foxes this season, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists in all competitions. He has also earned 37 international caps for the Algerian National team and has eight international goals to his name so far. The Algerian wide-man has put in some sensational performances for Leicester City during the course of this campaign which has alerted City, who are ready to reignite their pursuit of the player. His’s current contract with the Foxes runs until the summer of 2020 so Claude Puel will be in no pressure to sell.
City are currently leading the Premier League table with a comfortable 13 point advantage over their crosstown rivals, Manchester United going into the final few games of the campaign. Guardiola’ side can wrap up the league title in the coming weeks but for now, their attention has shifted to the Champions League where they are currently trailing with a 3-0 aggregate scoreline to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool with a crucial second leg at the Etihad Stadium looming on the horizon.
The addition of Mahrez will undoubtedly add more goals and assists to this City team as they look to build a dynasty under Pep Guardiola in the coming years. City have the likes of Leroy Sane, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and David Silva vying for a place in Guardiola’s first-team. The potential signing of Mahrez will add more competition for places in the Citizens squad.
