Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has claimed that Chelsea wanted him to sign this summer for a very large sum. Morata was re-signed by Real Madrid from Juventus for £34million.
Till now the most expensive Spanish striker is Fernando Torres who had been signed by Chelsea for £50million from Liverpool. Had Morata signed for Chelsea he could have been the expensive Spanish player of all time. Morata said, “Chelsea showed the most interest, Antonio Conte had already signed me for Juventus.”
“And it was a very good offer this time. I would have been the most expensive Spanish player ever.”
Antonio Conte signed Michy Batshuayi from Marseille for £33m after having failed to lure Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge. Atletico Madrid was also reportedly interested in the striker and even was ready to pay £60m but Madrid clearly said that they won’t sell any of their players to rival teams. The Spanish striker has 15 caps for Spain and has scored 8 goals for them.
