Mauricio Pochettino’s side bounced back well after the draw against Liverpool to win the next two games in the league and are now getting ready for their League Cup campaign this season. They face an English Football League opponent in Gillingham in what promises to be a decent game. Spurs are yet to be beaten in the league this season and will be going into this game full of confidence.

The North Londoners are one of the best defences not just in the league but also in the division and have shown some great grit at the back in most games this season. Gillingham, on the other hand, have the worst record in League one having conceded more goals than any other team in the division. It is not a game between two closely matched sides and playing at home, Tottenham Hotspur will have their moments on the night and will be hot favourites to win this game. Here is the Preview of this third round tie between Tottenham and Gillingham.

Team News

Star striker Harry Kane left the fans with something to think about when he was stretchered off in the recent league game against Sunderland. He is not available for at least a couple of months which will leave Vincent Janssen to lead the attack for Spurs in this game. Having been rested in the weekend, Eric Lamela and Christian Eriksen might be back for this game.

Justin Edinburgh, the manager of the traveling side, will miss the services of Jamie O’Hara who is unlikely to make it back from a foot injury. The likes of Paul Konchesky and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas will be expected to start for the League one side who will hope that they can stay in the game for as long as possible.

Expected lineups

Tottenham Hotspur

Vorm; Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Davies; Wanyama, Carroll, Lamela, Winks, Onomah; Janssen

Gillingham

Bond; Pask, Enmer, Oshilaja, Konchesky; Osaoabe, Wright, Byrne, Dack; Wegstaff, McDonald

Spurs have looked a well-drilled team and are playing some slick football this season. They looked a bit lethargic at times but that has vanished in the last week or so leaving Pochettino with some headaches in team selection. He has a number of players who can turn the screw and get a result for their side and it will be up to the manager to get the best of the squad on Wednesday.

Gillingham are a side that relies on their attacking outlet and if they are able to break Tottenham’s defence when not many Premier League teams could do, they might stand a chance in this game. But Pochettino’s men will surely go into the game as firm favourites to advance to the 4th round of the League Cup with a victory in this game. Playing at home only makes it easier for the Spurs.

Prediction

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Gillingham.
