According to Spanish news outlet, Don Balon, Manchester City are the heavy favourites to land Isco next summer. The Real Madrid midfielder has already expressed his desires to join the former Barcelona boss at the Etihad instead of Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
Isco has been at the heart of heavy transfer speculation since the January transfer window and it looks like Jose Mourinho might be joining in the race to sign the attacking midfielder.
Isco can almost be termed as the manager’s favourite, judging by the biases he has enjoyed over the past couple of season. James Rodriguez had to find a different club to play for after the 25-year-old started ahead of him time and time again. His talents are undeniable – the silky touch to beat defenders with just his first touch, an ability to break opposition defences with a quick pass. However, it looks like his form has dropped in recent times and the Spanish international has failed to uphold his own standards.
Real Madrid in itself are undergoing a slump after winning the UEFA Champions League for two seasons in a row. The entire Galactico side has been caught out snoozing in the domestic competitions with their bitter rivals, Barcelona running away with the La Liga title.
Zinedine Zidane’s side did themselves no favours in January by bowing out of the Copa Del Rey with a 1-2 loss against Leganes and this has not only infuriated the fans at Santiago Bernabeu but the club president, Florentino Perez as well.
Perez has been plotting a transfer move for Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain for quite some time now and he would have to offload a few talents in order to make way for the Brazilian superstar.
Neymar transferred to the Ligue 1 only last summer which marked him to be the most expensive player in the world closely followed by Kylian Mbappe and the bosses at the Bernabeu would love to see him play in Madrid jersey next season.
Earlier in the season plenty of reports came out which revealed Cristiano Ronaldo’s probable fall out with the Madrid management. The Portuguese international’s future with the Los Blancos is uncertain and the club president wants to bring in a superstar to replace him.
Manchester City can pry Isco away from the Bernabeu and a bid of €80m has been thrown around in the mix. However, is Isco the right fit with the Citizens? Pep already has David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne both of whom are world class stars in the creative role.
Isco might just be a surplus to their requirements and Pep should prioritize a move for either a defensive option or a rotational winger.
