Chelsea Midfielder Is Set To Leave This Summer: Can The Blues Afford To Lose Him?

In a recent report, journalist Simon Phillips stated that Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is set to leave this summer. It has been mentioned that the Argentine playmaker is inching closer to parting ways with the Blues this off-season.

Fernandez’s Impressive Form In English Football

Fernandez has enjoyed another excellent campaign at the West London club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net 15 times and picked up seven assists in 54 matches for the Blues this season across various competitions.

The Argentine sensation is currently one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League. Hence, it won’t be easy for the Blues to keep hold of his services beyond the end of this campaign.

His current contract at Stamford Bridge will run out in the summer of 2032. Thus, the Blues are under no immediate pressure to cash in on him unless they receive a massive fee for him this off-season.

Can Chelsea Afford To Lose Fernandez This Summer?

Fernandez loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and is an accurate passer as well.

The Argentine sensation can contribute by scoring and creating a lot of important goals for his team from midfield. Fernandez is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also function as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so by his manager. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and is currently one of the first names on Chelsea‘s teamsheet.

Hence, the Blues would be wise to retain his services for the long run. However, without UEFA Champions League football next season, the West London club might struggle to convince the player to stay put beyond this summer.

At 25, Fernandez has his best years ahead of him and is currently an irreplaceable member of Chelsea’s first team. Hence, the Blues can only afford to lose him if they receive a massive offer as they can use some of that money to find a suitable replacement for him in this upcoming transfer window.
