According to Fichajes, Liverpool are willing to rival Manchester City in their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde. However, the signing seems almost impossible as the Spanish club are in no mood to sell the player.
Federico Valverde is an important link in Real Madrid
Federico Valverde joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2016. However, his breakthrough season came in the 2019-2020 campaign, where he managed to establish himself. Since then, he has been on a rising curve and is now an integral part of the squad.
Valverde continues to perform well in the middle of the park. He has netted three goals and provided two assists in 17 games so far. He is averaging 1.4 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, and 0.9 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Uruguayan midfielder is versatile to play different roles in the midfield. He is a running machine and has incredible strength in his feet. He can do all the dirty work for the side and also contribute significantly in the final third.
Real Madrid will not sell Federico Valverde
Arne Slot remains keen on bolstering Liverpool’s midfield unit as they continue to fight for important titles. Hence, the addition of Federico Valverde would be seen in good spirits.
However, the deal seems almost impossible to pull off as Real Madrid wouldn’t entertain any offers for the 26-year-old. Valverde is one of a kind and his departure is something the Spanish club cannot afford to take.
Valverde has a release clause of €1 billion release clause and his contract expires in 2029. It means the Whites are in no hurry to sell the player. Ideally, Liverpool will have to identify any other target in the market to pull off in the January window or in the summer window next year.
