According to a report from Sport, Barcelona are considering signing a new goalkeeper in the 2025 summer transfer window. The Spanish club have Lille OSC’s Lucas Chevalier on their wishlist and even learnt the asking price recently.
Lucas Chevalier’s journey so far
Lucas Chevalier has always been an impressive performer since his early days at Lille Academy. He worked hard to earn his professional debut in 2022 against Marseille. Since then, he has taken huge strides, emerging as a mainstay on the French side.
Chevalier is currently Lille’s primary goalkeeper and a reliable name on the teamsheet. He has featured in 17 games this season so far, leaking 16 goals. In the process, he has kept seven clean sheets.
The French stop-stopper is known for his aggressive modern style of goalkeeping. He commands his area well and never hesitates to come off the line. He has strong hands, and quick reflexes, and is also effective at denying penalty kicks.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen wasn’t doing enough too
Barcelona’s goalkeeper woes started after their skipper Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a bad injury. The wound ruled him out of action for the remainder of the season. Doubtful over the abilities of Inaki Pena, the club decided to sign Wojciech Szczesny.
The Polish goalkeeper reversed his retirement decision to wear the prestigious journey. While Barcelona have managed to fix its problem for the short term, they are also planning for the long term.
Reportedly, the Spanish club aren’t keen on extending Szczesny’s stay beyond this season. Moreover, they aren’t fully convinced of Pena’s potential yet. Hence, they are eyeing signing Lucas Chevalier as a long-term replacement.
However, a lot will depend on how things turn out at the end of the season. Lille reportedly want €40 million to sanction the move of the 22-year-old with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) also keeping tabs on the youngster.
