In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Newcastle United are hoping to land Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are keen on getting a deal done for the French winger next year.
Akliouche’s Impressive Form In Ligue 1 This Season
Akliouche has caught the eye at times for Monaco in Ligue 1 this season and has already put in a few impressive displays for them in the final third. The 22-year-old has found the back of the net once and secured one assist in seven matches for the French outfit during this campaign across all competitions.
The French talent has been a decent contributor in the opponent’s half as he is averaging 1.5 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even tidy when distributing possession in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 85.2% in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will expire in the summer of 2028 which would make it difficult for the Magpies to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Bring Akliouche On Board?
Akliouche is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the eye to set up some decent plays for others around him on the offensive end of the pitch and can strike the ball with power from long range.
However, the French sensation needs to find a way to be more productive in front of the opponent’s goal. Plus, there are some question marks over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
Still, Akliouche would enhance the quality of Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe’s frontline. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular first-team spot at the Tyneside club in the coming years.
At 22, the future looks quite promising for Akliouche as long as he continues to improve with each season. Thus, it makes sense for the Magpies to try everything they can to bring him on board in the January transfer window or next summer.
