Liverpool locked horns with Brighton and Hove Albion at the American Express Community Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to secure a good result in the EFL Cup. The Reds made a good start to the game but were held to a scoreless draw at the half-time break.
Cody Gakpo opened the goal-scoring with a brilliant strike in the 46th minute. Gakpo doubled his team’s advantage in the 63rd minute. Simon Adingra got a goal back for the home side in the 81st minute but Luis Diaz killed the game off with a good finish just four minutes later. Tariq Lamptey got another goal back for Brighton late in the game but Arne Slot’s men held on to their slender advantage and secured a hard-fought 3-2 win away from home.

Gakpo scored two wonderful goals which was enough to give his team the win tonight. He deserves to be named the man of the match.

He was a constant menace in the final third but struggled to take his chances in front of the opposition goal.
LW: Luis Diaz – 7.5/10
Diaz made two dangerous runs with the ball and managed to score Liverpool’s third goal with a decent strike.
