According to Inter Live, Manchester City are interested in signing Inter Milan right-back Benjamin Pavard next summer. The Premier League club believe he could be an ideal replacement for Kyle Walker in the coming seasons.
Benjamin Pavard’s move to Inter Milan has worked well
Benjamin Pavard represented the likes of VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich before Inter Milan lured him last summer for €30 million. The transfer has proven to be productive as the player regularly features on the team list, dropping good performances.
Pavard featured in 32 games last season and provided three assists. He averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, and 1.8 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). He also appears regularly on the international stage for France’s national team.
The French defender can be deployed as a centre-back or a right-back. He is solid in the defensive aspects of the game including the aerial presence. Going up front in the final third, he can help in the build-up and also score goals on his own.
A replacement for Kyle Walker?
Kyle Walker has been a great servant for Manchester City over the past decade. He contributed significantly to the team’s success and also established himself as one of the best right-backs in the world. However, the club will have to soon find a replacement for him as he will turn 35 by the end of this season.
Though Walker has shown no signs of slowing down, it’s natural that he will have a major chunk of his powers in a few years. Hence, it makes sense for the Citizens to start finding a fitting name soon. To address the issue, the English giants have identified Benjamin Pavard.
Pavard is an experienced and proven campaigner. His abilities in both aspects of the game cannot be ignored. Manchester City will have to spend somewhere around €50 million to acquire his services. The 28-year-old has some good years at his peak and can make an instant impact at Etihad Stadium.
