In a recent report, Tuttomercatoweb claimed that Arsenal could move in for Lille forward Jonathan David. It has been stated that the Gunners would have to rival Inter Milan and Juventus in the race to sign the Canadian striker next year.
David’s Impressive Run Of Form In French Football
David has made a decent start to this campaign as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Canada international scored four times and picked up a couple of assists in ten matches for Lille this season across all competitions.
The 24-year-old has caught the eye at times in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.0 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball based on his pass completion rate of 77.4% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out at the end of this campaign which could open the door for the Gunners to sign him on the cheap in the January transfer window.
What Will David Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Side?
David excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates up top and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Canadian talent can be a consistent goal-scorer in the final third when he is playing well on the field. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if Arsenal manage to get a deal done for him next year.
We can expect David to add more firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s attack. He is more than capable of nailing down a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming years.
At 24, David has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Gunners to pursue in this winter transfer period. All in all, Arteta would be wise to get him on board soon.
