In a recent report, The Telegraph revealed that West Ham United are hoping to land Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier. It has been claimed that the Hammers are eyeing a move to bring the England international to the London Stadium this summer.
Trippier’s Impressive Form In The Premier League
Trippier had a decent campaign at the Tyneside club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the right flank. The 33-year-old scored one goal and grabbed 11 assists in 39 matches for Newcastle last season in all competitions.
The English talent gave a good account of himself on the right side of Eddie Howe’s defence based on his average of 2.0 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.7 clearances and 2.3 key passes per game in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball relatively well from the right wing, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 79.7% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Newcastle will expire at the end of next season. Thus, West Ham could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal in this summer transfer window.
Is Trippier A Decent Fit For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Trippier is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when needed and can set up a few promising chances for others around him in the final third. The English talent is a great crosser of the ball but is a player on the decline.
At 33, Trippier has only got a few good years left in him to play at a high level. Therefore, he would only be a good fit for West Ham in the short term. The English sensation would no doubt enhance the quality of Julen Lopetegui’s first XI and could help the Hammers push for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season.
Thus, it makes sense for the East London club to go all out to bring Trippier to the London Stadium on a cut-price deal before the end of this summer transfer window. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at West Ham.
