In a recent report, L’Equipe stated that Tottenham Hotspur are in the running to land Lille striker Jonathan David this summer. It has been claimed that Spurs would have to rival Atletico Madrid in the race to sign the Canadian forward this off-season.
David’s Impressive Record In Ligue 1 Last Season
David had a productive campaign at the French club recently as he put in a lot of impressive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. The Canadian attacker banged in 26 goals and grabbed nine assists in 47 matches for Lille last season on all fronts.
The 24-year-old proved his worth in the final third by averaging 2.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 football. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 82.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
David is under contract at the French club until the end of next season which could open the door for Tottenham to sign him on a cut-price deal this month.
Will David Be A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
David excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a reliable finisher in Ligue 1 football and can even engineer the odd chance for his teammates to find the back of the net.
However, only time will tell whether the Canadian talent can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Tottenham can manage to bring him on board before the end of this transfer window.
David would add a lot of goals to Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglu’s frontline. He could even go on to form a productive partnership with Heung-min Son and James Maddison at the North London club in the coming seasons.
At 24, David has got his peak years ahead of him which makes him an excellent choice for Tottenham to consider this month. He might even help the London giants compete for a major trophy or two over the next few years. All in all, Postecoglu should focus on trying everything in his power to bring David to the English capital this off-season.
