In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle United are in advanced talks to land Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi this summer. It has been revealed that the Magpies are pushing to get a deal done for the English defender before the end of this month.
Guehi’s Impressive Form At Selhurst Park Last Season
Guehi was a solid presence at the heart of Crystal Palace’s defence in the previous campaign when he put in a series of dominant performances for the Eagles in the Premier League. The England international played in 29 matches for the London outfit last season, securing one assist across all competitions.
The 24-year-old was a good performer on the defensive end of the pitch based on his average of 1.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even accurate with his ball distribution, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 87.2% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Tyneside club will run out in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for the Magpies to sign him on the cheap in this transfer window.
What Will Guehi Bring To Newcastle United?
Guehi is a good tackler of the ball and scan the danger well to make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can play his way out from the back. Guehi is primarily a centre-half but can also play as a defensive midfielder if required.
The English talent has proven himself to be a capable defender in the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Newcastle United if Eddie Howe can find a way to get him on board before the end of this transfer window.
At 24, the best is yet to come from Guehi. We can expect him to bring more bite and steel to the Tyneside club‘s defence. He is good enough to earn a regular first-team spot at St. James’ Park this season.
Guehi will help the Magpies challenge across all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, Howe should focus on trying everything in their power to lure him to the Tyneside club this month.
