According to Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes, Premier League club Manchester United are seriously considering making a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson to acquire his services before the summer window closes.
Ederson is a key player at Atalanta
After representing a series of clubs, Ederson arrived at Atalanta in the summer of 2022. In a short span, he didn’t only impress the management but also managed to establish himself as an integral part of the setup.
Ederson played an instrumental role in Atalana’s success last season. He featured in 53 games, netting seven goals and providing an assist. He averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, and 1.1 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Brazilian midfielder likes to control the tempo of the game in the middle of the park. He is solid with his tackles, and interceptions, and marks an aerial presence. He carries the ball well and then distributes it in the final third.
Manchester United want Ederson amid certainty
Manchester United’s interest in Ederson is understandable. While Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay could be leaving the club this summer, Erik Ten Hag doesn’t want to rely upon Casemiro, who had a dismal performance last season.
Sofyan Amrabat, who came as a loane last summer, has already returned to Fiorentina. On the other hand, the deal for Manuel Ugarte is complicated and might not be materialized before August 31. Hence, the English club want to add depth by recruiting Ederson.
The 25-year-old is a proven campaigner and can make an instant impact upon arrival. His presence in the midfielder will allow other players to play with more freedom. Being 25 years old, the midfielder can serve at Old Trafford for many years to come.
Atalanta has valued the talented midfielder at €60 million. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United are willing to pay that much. Cracking a deal in a such short time will be difficult but not impossible.
