Recent reports from The Sun suggest that Manchester United are keen on signing Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba. The report further states that Inter have set an asking fee of around £27 million.

The ex-Tottenham star has struggled to find his feet since moving to Italy in the last winter transfer window.  Having fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte, the Danish midfielder could be on his way back to England, with Manchester United and Arsenal among his potential destinations. The 28-year-old has started only four in seventeen games for The Black and Blues this season as Conte looks dead set on offloading him next month.

What Will He Bring To The Table?

Internazionale signed Christian Eriksen earlier this year looking to add depth, quality, and creativity in the middle of the park – all being pieces of the puzzle they had to put together to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title potentially. The reason Conte chose him was quite straightforward – an eye for a pass, quality when delivering set pieces, and shooting power from a distance. However, it’ll be an understatement to say that things didn’t quite work according to the plan.

Prior to his move, Eriksen played 470 games in his senior career, bagging 106 goals and 154 assists. Simplifying the digits, it means a goal or an assist every 1.8 games. The fact that he started only 396 games out of the 470 he played makes it even more fascinating. The Danish international makes creation and conversion of chances a lot easier when on the pitch and also possess the versatility to play across the midfield, making his movement extraordinarily unpredictable. Coming to the defensive aspect of his game, the 28-year-old can retain possession effortlessly, and is capable of dropping deep and linking up the play even under high-pressure situations.

The 103-time Denmark international will be desperate to get back to his old form, and hence a move to the Old Trafford in the coming month might turn out to be highly beneficial for him.

Should Ole Go In For Eriksen?

Once the transfer window opens, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will be looking for solutions to some burning questions, and the ex-Ajax star might be the answer. With Paul Pogba’s situation at United still uncertain, Eriksen will surely challenge for a spot in the starting XI as he fills the Norwegian tactician’s needs perfectly. As evident from the stats mentioned above, he still has a lot to offer in the coming seasons, and a change of atmosphere might work out in his favour.

Nonetheless, if the deal gets over the line, it’ll be a win-win situation for all the parties involved.
