According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport via Paisley Gates, Premier League club Liverpool are the front-runners to sign Atalanta attacking midfielder Teun Koopmeiners this summer as they look to bolster the unit for next season.
Teun Koopmeiners has brilliant numbers
Teun Koopmeiners is an established member of the Atalanta side and one of their key members. He joined the Serie A side in the summer of 2021 from AZ. Over the past couple of seasons, he has done exceptionally well to enhance the team’s performance.
Koopmeiners played a crucial role in Atalanta’s success last season. He scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in 51 games. He averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, and 0.8 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Dutch midfielder is known for his attacking traits. He can express his creative mind in the final third, thanks to his accurate passes and vision. He also holds the ability to provide finishing touches or score by shooting from a distance.
Will Liverpool spend high on Teun Koopmeiners?
Liverpool’s main target remains Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as they look for defensive reinforcement. However, once that deal is done, the club also want an attacking recruitment in the middle of the park to have enough options next season.
The Reds have been linked with Teun Koopmeiners for many months but Juventus were leading the race. However, the latter aren’t willing to match Atalanta‘s asking price of €60 million. This has given the English outfit a lead in the race.
Liverpool has all the money to finance the move but they will look to negotiate for sure. Koopmeiners’ addition will surely add more creativity in the final third. His presence will take away from burden from the shoulders of other attackers.
The 26-year-old is at the peak of his powers and can help the Reds fight for trophies. But it comes down between the clubs to agree on a deal.
