In a recent report, TuttoJuve stated that West Ham United are prepared to step up their efforts for Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo. It has been claimed that the Hammers are eyeing a move to bring the French centre-back to the London Stadium this summer.
Todibo’s Decent Run Of Form In Ligue 1 Last Season
The 24-year-old enjoyed a solid season at the French club after producing a series of eye-catching performances at the heart of their backline. Todibo secured three assists in 33 appearances for Nice last season across all competitions.
The French defensive ace gave a good account of himself on the defensive third of the pitch and did well to average 1.9 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 football. He has even been accurate when interchanging possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 90.1% in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Ligue 1 club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for West Ham to sign Todibo on the cheap later this year.
Is Todibo A Good Fit For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Todibo is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can even play his way out from the back.
The French sensation can use his powerful 1.90 frame to win a few aerial duels for his team. However, there are some concerns over whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if the Hammers manage to bring him on board in this transfer window.
At 24, Todibo has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui’s needs in the long run. He might even help the East London club challenge across all fronts in the future.
All in all, the Hammers would be wise to go all out to lure Todibo to the London Stadium this summer. However, he might struggle to settle into the high intensity of Premier League football.
